Mary, Mary… Where does your water go?
wanna see how we're getting you there?
Here's the maps of our route.
We're going to start in Chapel Hill and make our way to Brumley Forest. A beautiful property managed by the Triangle Land Conservancy. From there we're going to head up to Horton Grove Nature Preserve and make a stop at historic Stagville Plantation, a state historic site.
We'll use the Neuse River Trail to make it to Clayton, NC before taking to the road and all the way to the coast at Harkers Island.
The ferry will take us to the Outer Banks to ride north before coming back to the mainland at Point Harbor.
Once on mainland we'll make our way to visit historic Soul City, the soul in Bikes, Water & Soul, before heading back home
Teens To Make Shift Happen While Exploring Connections Between People and Water
When rain falls in the forest, trickles over soil and into streams do you know where it shows up days later? In the faucets of our Capital City! Years later in the fresh salty tastes of North Carolina as a delicious oyster. This summer 20 teens will shift gears and pedal along the Neuse River through 18 counties and 77 towns to reach the Atlantic Ocean to complete just 1/3 of their extraordinary tour.
This collaboration between Triangle Land Conservancy and Triangle Bikeworks will have teens cycling through beautiful farmland, stately forests and historic sites where people of color changed the course of culture and conservation and environmental justice was born.
Swinging out to the Outer Banks they will cycle along the coast before coming back to the mainland in Port Harbor. Before taking the trek home a stop through Warren County and Soul City are in the plans to complete the third leg of the tour.
They depart July 7 for a life-changing 14-day tour of historic NC.

The Upper Neuse Clean Water Initiative (UNCWI) is a partnership effort to prioritize and protect those lands most critical for the long-term safety and health of all drinking water supplies for the communities in the Upper Neuse River Basin. In addition to providing our community with clean water, land in this region is also known for working farmland and the gorgeous rolling beauty of the surrounding countryside.
