This July students from across the Triangle will begin the journey of self discovery as they cycle from New Orleans, LA to St. Louis, MO.
Just as a Chihuahua is a long way from the wolf, American popular music is a great deal away from its origins as the music created and amalgamated by enslaved Africans.
This summer teens from the Spoke'n Revolutions youth cycling team will embark on a journey of self-discovery while learning of the roots of popular music and environmental challenges of the area.
The youth cyclists are encouraged to retell their stories through blogs, Finsta-Tweets (FB, Instagram, Twitter) and video documentaries. They'll make post-trip presentations to their local schools and city governments as permitted.
Past participants reflecting on a similar experience wrote: “I never saw it in the beginning but now I do see how I have changed.”
