The Great Migration was a landmark event in US history. It was the movement of 6 million African Americans out of the rural Southern United States to the urban Northeast, Midwest and West

A Tour Marking History

Occurring between 1916 and 1970, the monumental period of the Great Migration reshaped the culture and history of the United States. And quickened its progress toward labor rights, democracy, and civil rights.

Since the start, Triangle Bikeworks’ youth have cycled to and through a variety of historic spaces, learning stories of America's past that aren’t primary subjects in today’s classrooms.

Each tour has a historical, environmental or culturally relevant theme and a corresponding unique curriculum.

BIKE

Physical activity designed to educate on bike safety and group riding.

LEARN

Experiential Learning: a way to deepen the knowledge obtained with Untold History and Environmental Justice.

LEAD

Ability to work with a team, set goals, and obtain them. Leadership over one's own life.

This year's tour the youth will ride from Carrboro, NC to Chicago, Ill. One of the many destinations for people fleeing the overwhelming and oppressive conditions of the southern states.

With an estimated distance of approximately 810 miles and elevations of almost 3,500 feet, the ride will be as mentally and physically challenging as it was for the original sojourners. But the youth are up for it. They are training locally on the area's largest hills in anticipation of traversing the mountains.

Support A Youth on Tour

You can support a youth on as they undertake this epic, life-changing, once-in-a-lifetime event. Every dollar raised will support Triangle Bikeworks in providing the programming, equipment, and expertise necessary to get a youth on a bicycle and learning experientially.
