Everyone Has A Voice
Selma, Alabama, holds a significant place in the history of civil rights
and voting rights in the United States. The Selma to Montgomery marches
of 1965 were a series of peaceful protests that played a pivotal role in
the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
We're thrilled to offer the Summer Experience challenge to teens. They'll cycle from Selma, Alabama to Carrboro, North Carolina and embark on a bike journey that not only celebrates the spirit of adventure but also honors the historical significance of Selma in the fight for voting rights.
By taking on this journey, these teens will not only experience the thrill of cycling through beautiful landscapes, but also gain a deeper understanding of the importance of voting rights and its impact on their community and the environment. They will also be able to connect and ride with local youth biking organizations and build friendships across the country.
For teenagers, traveling hundreds of miles by bike from Selma can be a powerful and transformative experience. We believe that educating and empowering young people to be advocates for democracy and justice is vital, especially in these times of continued efforts to restrict voting rights. Through this bike journey, we hope to inspire teens to take action, speak out, and make a positive impact on their communities.
