Youth cycling opportunities that inspire.
Transforming lives since 2011
About Triangle Bikeworks
Triangle Bikeworks was created in 2011 to address disparities in educational outcomes and expectations among Black, Latine, Asian, Indigenous and People Of Color (BIPOC) students in their school systems. The founders had the goal of providing challenging and diverse out-of-school learning opportunities that addressed academic opportunity gaps and complemented traditional classroom learning.
Our programs were created to empower youth to overcome challenges, to set and achieve high goals, and to figure out who they want to be. We support students through three primary pathways: organized cycling, education about untold BIPOC history, and education about environmental issues and their impact on BIPOC people.
Since 2010, we're celebrating . . .
Developing self-efficacy, grit, and a growth mindset to break through barriers and overcome challenges.
Social Emotional Learning
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) is the thread that runs through all learning pathways and goals and ties them together. We focus primarily on 3 competencies from the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL).
Self-awareness
Beliefs, emotions, grit, and growth mindset
Self-management
goal setting, overcoming challenges, emotional regulation
Social awareness
empathy, perspective-taking, diversity, cultural awareness and action, community resources
It’s spiritual, mental, physical, all of those, a really great experience. It’s not like any other. It’s not just biking.
2017 Cyclist
[My biggest challenge was] definitely breaking that mental barrier of my own belief that I couldn’t do it.
2018 Cyclist
I wasn’t that expressive when I first joined but I gained a lot more experience so like, I can easily talk to people now, I’ve improved a lot.
